Bairnsdale to Orbost

Greetings old bike riders. There is an organised ride planned here in East Gippsland on the weekend of the 1st November.  It is called the B2O Epic (Bairnsdale 2 Orbost).  Full event details at www.wildernessbikeride.com.au I am planning to do the first day, Bairnsdale to Orbost, on one of my old racing bikes.  The 100km course consists of 10kms of sealed 'rail trail', followed by 90 kms of gravel rail trail.  There are plenty of hills, but all gentle gradients, as the course was originally designed for steam engines. The road surface is suitable for road bikes with robust tyres, specially suited to 28 x 1 3/8" tyres, but  bikes equipped with 27 x1/4"  touring tyres would be OK.  Brakes would be handy, but not essential if you want to ride a fixie.  For the messanger fixie types, we can organise for you to deliver some parcels along the way.

I would not recommend that you bring your 1972 concourse condition Masi with singles and 24 spoke wheels, but that is up to you.

If there is sufficient interest, I will organise some extra details for the 'old bike' group.  I f you are interested, let me know SOON.  If you express interest 5 minutes before the event, it wont happen.

The 100 km course takes in the towns of Bruthen and Nowa Nowa, at approx 34km and two 68km distance, so there is real coffee and good food available at suitable intervals.

Please pass this message on to anyone that you think might be interested.
